The Educational and Research Institute of Foreign Philology, Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University is a partner of implementing ERASMUS + project Modernisation of university education programmes in foreign languages by integrating information technologies (DigiFLED)
Project duration: 2024–2026.
Erasmus+ (CBHE) grant amount: 718 932.00 €
Target groups: FL students, university teaching staff and school teachers.
This project aims to improve the quality of higher education in Ukraine by strengthening the Foreign Language-related curricula with information and communication information technologies (ICTs).
Its objectives are:
- to address mismatches between the requirements of the labour market and the offer of HEIs;
- to provide FL professionals with the necessary training in ICTs;
- to foster cooperation between partner universities;
- to strengthen the relationships between HEIs, schools and other stakeholders;
- to enhance visibility of the Ukrainian language and culture internationally.
Expected results: the gap between the requirements of the labour market and the offer of HEIs narrowed; 24 university curricula in FL innovated; e-learning equipment in 7 UA HEIs modernised; the quality of FL education improved; students and teaching staff trained in ICT; international links strengthened; new placement opportunities created; international project management skills enhanced; Ukrainian language and culture promoted internationally.

Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University project manager is PhD (linguistics), Professor — Viktoriia Zhukovska, head of work group PhD (linguistics), Associate Professor Maryna Polkhovska. The Project will be carried out by the faculty of three departments: Department of Intercultural Communication and Foreign Language Education, English Philology and Translation, English Language and Applied Linguistics.

On January 30 — February 1, 2024, the University of Tampere, Finland, hosted a kick-off meeting of project managers. Project Manager Viktoriia Zhukovska and Director of the Institute of Foreign Philology Maryna Polkhovska presented the Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University and the project working group. They took part in the discussion of goals, objectives, expected results, work packages, main trends, challenges and best practices in the digitalization of foreign language teaching. It was extremely useful to get acquainted with the strategies and technologies of teaching translation at the University of Tampere, Finland, to attend lectures on academic writing and the use of artificial intelligence texts, on how prepare translation projects.The information will be used to update the content of the educational and professional programs “English Language and Literature (Translation Included)”, “Applied Linguistics (English)”, “English Language and Foreign Literature in Educational Institutions”.
