Achievements by the Department of Olympic and Professional Sports

Sports and mass work of the department is focused on active participation in plan implementation of vocational guidance of Faculty of Physical Education and Sport (testing physical abilities of school graduates in city and region) and in the preparation of region teams in various sports (basketball, volleyball, football, weightlifting).

Much attention is paid to the training process in improving conditions of sports skills of students in: basketball, volleyball, football, powerlifting, sports aerobics, swimming, judo.

During the school year, teachers of the department of Olympic and Professional Sport actively participate in the preparation of students for competitions.

In Sports Games swimming competitions for university students of Zhytomyr region, ZSU swimming team won the first prize team place. Students of the School of Physical Education and Sports won 12 first prizes, 8 second prizes, 6 third prizes and won 2 relay races (team coach: A. Z. Kruk).

Zhytomyr State University volleyball team took second prize in the first round of the Volleyball City Championship for students of higher educational establishments (team coach: M. P. Sarancha).

Zhytomyr State University basketball team took first prize in the first round of the Basketball City Championship for students of higher educational establishments (team coach: T. V. Kaftanova).

University powerlifting team took prizes in Powelifting City Championship, Zhytomyr Open Cup, Zhytomyr Region Open Championship (coach: I. V. Mychka).

Championship of Ukraine in powerlifting and bench press replenished treasury of sporting achievements of Zhytomyr State University named after Ivan Franko with «bronze» medal (September, 14-18, 2014, Kolomyia). Zhytomyr region was represented by Oleksandr Iaremchuk, the student of group 43 of the faculty of Physical Education and Sports, Master of Sports of Ukraine in powerlifting (coach — Ivan Mychka, instructor of the department of Olympic and Professional Sports). Seven athletes from different regions of Ukraine participated in his weight category (59 kg). Oleksandr performed in powerlifting competitions (triathlon: bench press, deadlift, squat with barbell). With a total result of 385 kg Oleksandr Iaremchuk won third place prize, being behind athletes from Donetsk and Luhansk.
