Postgraduate and Doctorate Studies
Post-graduate course at Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University started in 1992 in 4 specialties 03.00.08 — Zoology, 10.01.06 — Theory of Literature, 10.02.01 — Ukrainian language, 10.02.04 — Germanic Languages. Today post-graduate courses are available in 22 specialties. Since 2003 the doctorate course has been provided by the University.

Those wishing to complete a post-graduate course at the University could apply to the post-graduate and doctorate office (Room 204, telephone/fax +380 412 43-11-95). Candidates are admitted to the post-graduate course annually when they have a complete higher education.
The package of the documents includes:
- Application addressed to the Rector;
- Medical certificate (form 086-O) (certified by the university doctor);
- Personal card (Form P-2DS);
- Record of the interview with a prospective supervisor;
- Certificate from the place of work;
- List of publications and inventions certified by the University Academic Secretary (Applicants who have not published scientific works, submit abstracts in chosen specialty to be checked by a prospective scientific supervisor);
- Legalized and notarized copy (when obtained outside Ukraine) of the University Diploma and its supplement;
- Certificate of candidate examinations;
- Copies of the identification number, passport, employment history (certified in the personnel department at the place of work);
- A letter of application compiled by the institution sending the applicant to study (with the confirmation of possible employment);
- Recommendation of the Academic Board of the institution (if any);
- Agreement on post-graduate training of the institution directing the candidate (Target Training);
- 3 photos 3×4 cm;
- Copy of military ID.
The papers are filed in binders. Passport and University diploma are presented personally.
Those who have not previously passed the candidate examinations have to sit entrance examinations in speciality, philosophy and a foreign language which are held annually in October.
The documents are annually submitted from August, 20 until September, 13 to Postgraduate and Doctorate Office, Room 204, 10008, Zhytomyr, vul. Velyka Berdychivska, 40.

Applicants submit the following documents:
- Application addressed to the Rector;
- Medical certificate (form 086-O) (certified by the university doctor);
- Personal card from the personnel department (Form P-2DS);
- Record of the interview with the prospective scientific consultant;
- Certificate from the principal place of work;
- List of publications and inventions prepared after obtaining the Candidate of Sciences degree;
- Legalized and notarized (when obtained outside Ukraine) copy of the university diploma;
- Legalized and notarized (when obtained outside Ukraine) copies of the awarding the academic degree of Candidate of Sciences, of associate professor or professor;
- Detailed plan of the research;
- Scientific consultant’s review of the research material;
- Extract from the minutes of the Department concerning the results of the interview with the applicant and Department recommendation to enter doctoral course;
- Copies of the identification number, passport, employment history (certified in the personnel department at work);
- Recommendation of the Academic Council of the institution sending the applicant (if any);
- Agreement on doctoral training signed by the institution that directs the applicant (Target Training);
- 3 photos 3×4 cm;
- Copy of military ID.
Interviews with applicants for doctoral training are held in September annually at the relevant departments of the University. Documents are sent from August, 25 until September, 10 annually to Postgraduate and Doctorate Office, Room 204, 10008, Zhytomyr, vul. Velyka Berdychivska, 40.
Candidate Minimum Examinations
Necessary in order to receive the academic degree of the Candidate of Sciences are held twice a year in autumn and in spring.
The documents submitted to sit the examinations include:
- Application addressed to the Rector;
- Certificate from the principal place of work;
- List of publications and inventions certified by the Academic secretary (for those taking examinations in specialties);
- Legalized and notarized (when obtained outside Ukraine) copy of the university diploma;
- Copies of the identification number, passport;
- Letter of application signed by the institution sending the candidate to sit examinations (if any);
- Essay for a candidate exam (for every examination separately and in advance);
- Original certificate of candidate examinations (for those taking examinations in specialties);
- Additional program for the specialty (persons who take exams in specialties);
- Extract from the minutes containing the approval of the research theme (for those who take examinations in a foreign language, specialties, and additional examinations).
Passport and University diploma are submitted in person.
